Transportation

One of the most popular Curriculum Themes among children, where they learn about passenger and work vehicles, boats, and planes in a variety of engaging activities and settings.

Dinosaurs

Children learn about prehistoric creatures who once walked the earth focusing particularly on five: the Brachiosaurus, Pterodactyl, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus rex.

Farm

Children learn about the sights and sounds of the farm landscape - farm animals and the sounds they make, farm buildings and equipment, and the produce from the land.

Apples

Children learn about the different types of apples - their names, colors, shapes, sizes, what they look like on the inside, and best of all how they taste.

Pumpkins

Children learn that pumpkins are a large fruit that grows on vines on the ground, mostly on farms. We can visit them in the fall at a pumpkin patch. Pumpkins have a hard orange shell and on the inside they have seeds and flesh.

Leaves & Acorns

In the fall, leaves change color from green to red, orange, yellow, and brown and then fall to the ground. The children use magnifying glasses to get a closer look at a leaf's texture, print with leaves and sort them by color.

Woodland Animals

Children learn about squirrels, owls, badgers, beavers and other woodland animals. They explore seeds and fruit to see what these animals each eat. They learn about the animals' habitat and which sounds and footprints they make.

Gingerbread Man

Children listen to several versions of the Gingerbread Man story and talk about the differences. Children act out the story in person and on felt boards. They use their imagination to bake and sell gingerbread cookies in a gingerbread bakery. They even get to bake, decorate, and enjoy real gingerbread cookies.

Snow & Snowflakes

Children learn about the properties of snow in a fake snow sensory bin. They use white playdough to make snowmen. They look at close-up images of snowflakes to see the uniqueness of each flake. They use chalk and other materials to draw and make snowflakes.

Ice & Cold

Children use pipettes to transfer watercolor onto ice blocks and use salt to melt the ice blocks to learn about the properties of ice. They learn about magnetism as they try to remove metal screws frozen in ice. They learn about proper winter attire and how to dress for cold weather.

Polar Animals

Children learn about penguins, seals, polar bears, beluga whales, and other polar animals. They learn that the polar regions are very cold and how animals are adapted to the cold climate. They use ice blocks to recreate a penguin habitat.

Bears & Hibernation

Children learn that bears eat a lot of food in the fall before hibernating in the winter and waking up again in the spring. They learn that bears sleep in dens, caves, tree trunks, and other places. Children make their own bear and put it to sleep in a den.

Construction

Another favorite theme of the children is the construction unit. There they learn about construction vehicles, their names and usages. They engage with a crane and construction materials in the block area and use wooden tools in the dramatic play area.

Rain & Rainbow

Children use a kaleidoscope and prism to learn about light and how it can break into a spectrum to create a rainbow. Children learn that we need rain to see a rainbow. They learn about the colors of the rainbow and engage in many activities related to color and mixing colors.

Bees, Bugs & Butterflies

Children watch live caterpillars grow into caterpillars. They learn about hexagons as they observe a real honeycomb. They learn that bees collect nectar and pollen to make honey. They learn to name several insects as they engage with miniature figures in the sensory bin.
