Creating a Happy Childhood
At Mighty Tiger Preschool, our mission is to provide a safe, caring and engaging environment for children to grow and develop normally. We strive to unlock their learning and creativity, so that they can grow up to become empathetic, responsible and productive citizens.
Our Story
The play-based setting our three children experienced is the inspiration for Mighty Tiger Preschool, a play-based and Montessori-inspired preschool. To this day we witness the positive impact from those early years on our own boys. So we aim to recreate this loving, respectful environment where children grow up in an atmosphere that nurtures positive self-image and healthy social skills.
Educational Philosophy
Our educational philosophy draws primarily from the play-based approach, as play is a child's work. We encourage children to choose meaningful activities based on their interests in a prepared environment and we motivate children to learn through interactions that expand their thinking. Play-based learning also teaches children playfully to cooperate and communicate through their play which are critical skills for success in the 21st century.
Educational Implementation
We encourage critical thinking and creative innovation among the children. We encourage the children to talk, read, think and experiment. We provide open-ended activities that focus on the process rather than the product. We offer many play-based opportunities to enable the children to follow their own interests and practice decision-making.
Preschool Info
We are a licensed preschool for 48 children ages 2 to 5 years in a mixed-age play-based setting. Our teacher-children ratio is no greater than 1 to 9. We are open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm year-round. We observe the federal holidays; are closed two weeks in the winter, one week for spring break, and two weeks in the summer. If requested, we provide breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack for a fee. Our monthly tuition for 2024/2025 is $2,032. We accept subsidies for income eligible families.

Mighty Tiger Preschool is located on 2575 Flores St, San Mateo, CA 94403. The main entrance to the preschool is a side door on 26th Place.
The Owners
Geoff and Ruth have been married for over 20 years and have three teenage boys who attend Belmont schools.
Ruth has been teaching since 2003. Ruth received her Site Supervisor Permit in Early Childhood Education from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. She has a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a German Elementary School teaching credential. She received an MA and a BA in Linguistics and English Studies from Humboldt-Universität in Berlin.
Geoff has completed Early Childhood Education courses at the San Mateo County Community Colleges. He has a BA in Economics with a minor in Accounting from UCLA. He brings to Mighty Tiger Preschool a rich career engaging with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
